Posts: 70 | I have had bad luck with the liquid bearings in the past 2010 trailer wondering if I should just replace them now and not have the hassles. (supposed to be good for five years) (but they do sell trailers!

Posts: 410 Location: With my son on the water | Bearings That depends completely on how much you use them and what type of conditions you are subjecting the trailer to. The more miles the sooner and if you run in salt, dust or mud. In the heavy equipment industry bearings are changed out every year in the off season. In a normal automobile it may never be needed. If you are having problems, definetely change them 100% now as they will not get better. This can be done yourself. Is is a messy job but not hard, they key is lots of rags and make 100% sure you have everything 100% clean and 100% free of any grit or sand when they go back together. You also want to put all new components in too, even if they look good.

Posts: 3504 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | My guess is he is talking about liquilube or an equivalent type of lubricating system. To be honest, systems like liquilube can be a great thing. The bearings are continually bathed in lubricant, Whether it is liquilube lubricant or oil bathed. The advantage of liquilube is that it can absorb a certain percentage of water and still protect the bearings. Then so long as there is no bearing play, you just drain, refill and you are done. I do know the liquilube system has a clear cap to let you see lube level, and some people have had situations where the cap has cracked due to a rock or some other road hazard, and the do make protective covers for those as well. If you have this kind of system, I'd say stay with it unless there is something majorly wrong with it. Steve

Posts: 70 | Thanks guys. The landings are turning to mush down here so my ice fishing is about over. I will get on it and take them apart. I know it's a big pain when your tire winds up passing you on the road!
