Hi guys,

I am heading to Destin Florida in a few weeks and was wondering if any of you have fished down there?

I was thinking about hiring a guide to try to catch some Redfish, I really don't want to do deep sea stuff but that intercoastal fishing looks fun.

If you have any thoughts please share them.

Thanks guys.

We went fishing out of destin a couple of years ago. The charter we took was a shark charter and the guy was supposed to be good. It was pathetic, he could not even catch bait. It was a total waste of time and money. If we go back it will either be chasing reds or bottom fishing for amber jacks and the likes.
Good luck

We've done some surf casting using a pompano rig and a 1-3 pyramid sinker with either shrimp or cut bait. We've caught shark, pompano, blue fish, catfish, whiting and the occasional flounder etc. We just go to the beach in front of our condo a couple of hours in the morning and the evening to mess around and catch a mixed bag, it's not fun as musky but it gives us something to do while we're down there and it's fairly cheap. We've been on the pier as well but never had much luck. You can also cast a spoon to schools of pompano from the surf for fun but we've never caught anything of size that way. We are generally there the first week of October and always hear the bite gets better.

We've done a little bottom fishing from the bridges and roadsides in the inter coastal waters but never caught anything, I've always wanted to take a kayak back there and see what I could get into.

Feel free to send me a pm if you need any details on any of this.

Well thanks for the info. Looks like we will not be heading down after all. We had a $700 dollar credit from Travelosity because we had to cancel a flight in November. They told us there would be a $150 fee to re-instate the tickets. LIARS they are charging us $600 in re-instate our tickets when we only spent $700 on them in the first place.
I guess this is why i hate flying and have not done it in years.

Get the MN Atty Gen involved. They live for that stuff.

That's a bummer about the ticket fee. I am going to FL this summer and was following this to see if there were any recommendations for guides as well. I quit booking with Expedia because of the possibility of cancelled flights and that stupid fee.
