What do you do with wooden lures with really bad hook rash? leave it? clear coat it ?

A little super glue to seal it up helps to keep the water out. Epoxy coated baits if water gets into the wood the wood will swell and crack the epoxy. If painted and clear coated not as important but will eventually happen.

I mix up some 5 minute epoxy and just paint over it. Careful not to use too little hardner, or the epoxy will stay soft and your hooks will foul up in it. You can use just about anything - superglue, nail polish...

It is best if the bait has dried for a day or so before sealing it, especially if it is an epoxy clear coat.
