I know the lakes are to warm to fish with water temps in the high 80s. So i got to thinks what about river systems with the moving water it should keep the water tepms down some or is it even to hot for that. Any thoughts on this?

Rivers because they're moving don't suffer from oxygen depletion the way lakes can, but they definitely can be every bit as warm as lakes. Now, it should be noted that often small clear streams are a lot colder and will draw in fish from a warmer river/flowage and may have a safe water temp. Same with springs. I'd try to take the temp before fishing one and if I found water mid-70s or lower I'd have at it.

I fish a few small rivers here in MN and the river right next to my house was at about 77.

Personally, I think you're probably safe then. Just give due diligence on the release. I stop fishing at 80 myself. I've heard of small lakes in IL up to 100.

There are some fish kills on some rivers in illinois right now. Many lakes too. I was up on the wi river jine 30, water temp 86 and had two walleyes release very slow. Not hooked bad, fast release. The river was very low.
