Hey Just curious why my st. croix rod is turning white all over the place. Its only 3 seasons old. Is this common? Does it effect the strength of the rod? Let me know.

Jim

Sorry, I think I spelt your name wrong.

Jim,
It sounds like the rod is one of our older models with the gold and red/maroon thread wraps.
St. Croix had a different type of urethane finish that we used to apply to the blanks. We have gone away from that process and now bake the finish on. Moisture has probably gotten underneath the finish and that will turn it white. It does no harm to your rod.

Rob actually my rod has black wraps and blue lettering on it. Its a preimer model so not sure whats going on. Its seems to be in the clear coat like you said so Im confident that its still structurally strong and was just curious as to what caused it.

I have one of the older St. Croix premier models that I still use. The clear coat "fogged" up after leaving my rod in the boat rod locker during 100 plus temps with major humidity. This happened about 5 years ago and I still use the rod with no complaints. I do own a few newer St. Croix rods as well and this has not happened to them.

Rob, I have one (6'6") I snapped on a hookset a week ago. Can I return it to St. Croix for replacement? And what is that address if so? Thanks, TMan.

Jim and Tackleman,
Both of you should call us at the factory. 800-826-7042. Get in touch with the service dept. and chat with the rep about your individual situations. Both should be very helpful and if not, let them know that they shall bear my wrath!![] [;)] [] [:praise:]
