I'm going to add a couple more Phantoms to my arsenal this Spring. I have several softails, but I was wondering if any thinks there are situations where no tail is actually better. I use Cobbs and Hellhounds (without the tail) so I allways get Phantoms with the tail. They definitelty get alot of interest from the fish and look so realistic in the water that I don't think I really want to get any of the new Phantoms without the tail. Any thoughts?

I just finished organizing my tackle and I've got (11) Phantoms... all with softails.
I figure, there are lot of other jerkbaits/glidebaits on the market WITHOUT tails... the Phantoms have too much action NOT to get them with the tails.

PSYS nailed it, there are lots of gliders out there with no tails, the softtails look awesome and run excellent. I dont get regular ones I only buy the softtails

I think for me the old style wood Phantom has put more fish in the boat than the soft tail Phantoms. Both are great baits.
I plan on getting rid of about 8-10 Phantoms next weekend at the Swap in WI. (I have about 20 and need to make room)

You guys do know that you can buy hellhounds with soft tails these days.

I picked up a twisted sucker last year. (met the guy while fishing and bought one) Basically a wood phantom with a squirrely tail. Pretty sweet bait if you can get your hands on one.

I like regular Phantoms. There are lots of gliders without tails, but that doesn't mean they all work the same. You can do things with a regular Phantom that you can't do with a regular Hellhound and vice versa. Regular Phantoms perform much differently than Phantom Softails. I think you need both. I've never tried the deep version, but I think there are some deep plastic models coming out this year. I haven't heard anything from them recently, but I'll be trying some when they come out.
