Subject: Middle Eau Claire lake ?????

Any tips on the Middle Eau Claire Lake. Took a cruise around the lake and didn't see anything positioned in 15-20 feet a few bait fish at 17 to 18 feet. Marked nothing until 25-35 feet and that was a school of smaller fish. The weed edge on the lake seems shallow for how clear the lake is. The mid lake bars have scattered weeds but not much. Is it worth my time working the midlake barren bars or focus on the sides with bulldawgs and cranks? thanks for any tips and info.

There are some rocky extended points/flats with almost no weed cover on the lake. I caught a 40 last June near sundown on a white/brown Shallow Invader on one of those rocky flats in about 3' of water. I think the fish came out of a downed tree on the shore. Nothing (not even a follow) out of weeds or bays. Most people I talked to seemed to think fishing deeper off the drops was the way to go. There are also some old fish cribs on that lake that some old timers know about that might be worth fishing if you can get someone to help you find them. I found them very hard to locate. Hope that helps a little. I haven't spent much time on the lake - only 3 days and a lot of that walleye fishing with non-musky fisherman - so I guess my advice isn't worth much!! Good luck, Hope you stick a big girl.

ETA: Had a pretty good bar food lunch at Buck-n-Bass on th NW side of the lake. Worth a stop for lunch IMO.

I've always wanted to try the Eau Claire chain and likely will in a couple weeks.
Sounds like dawgs and trolling some cranks in the deep basins through suspended bait fish is the way to go.

I would really like to learn this chain as I hear there are some slobs out there.

Boat partner lost a nice fish on a Suick Night Walker (Black) this morning. Boated a 38-39ish caliber fish on figure 8 Double 10 Bluegill pattern at 7:30 a.m. Burning bucktail with speed changes throughout the retrieve. Fish were in 7-14 ft of water. North side of lake was active this morning.
