| What sort of set-up works best for trolling pounders (or other size bulldogs for that matter) and how fast are you able to pull them? I'm referring to line, leader, weight, etc. rather than rod/reel.

| I troll 1 and 2 pounders in late fall. I use a 3 oz homemade, short bottom bouncer that acts like an erratic keel, 5 ft in front of pounders. The bottom bouncer swings back and forth about 6-10 inch each side of center and acts like a pivot for the bait behind. The pounder swings more than that, about 18" of center each side.
Hook ups are not the best, maybe slightly over 50%. Speed ranges from 2.1- 3.5 mph (gps), slower being a little deeper. Lost fish come when they hit the bait from underneath and go airborne. I'm fishing shallow weed tops only 1-2 ft below the surface.
I tried clip weights and inline sinkers but I don't get the swing and/or too many weeds build up on the weight. The action is better with the pivot weight forward and I can go faster and keep the bait down when needed. Without weights, pounders tend to roll about 2.2 mph |

Location: Minnetonka | Ed and Marty up at VDL might know a thing or two about trolling big rubber as well.
Looks like they used a 2 lber on a planer board with success this fall. Cool.
