Any good suggestions on a fish finder with gps? I am looking at the humminbird 365i sonar gps combo. Cabelas has it for $299.99. Has anyone used this model and does it pick up schools of shad? I am not very familiar with fish finders.

I am sure this unit would easily pick up schools of shad. My only concern with this unit is the screen size. A larger screen makes it so much easier to read. You might Google it and see if there are some reviews to read. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I will google it and see what I can find. What size screen would you recommend?

Based on my experience,

1. Get the largest screen you can within your price range.
2. Get color if you can. Why? I think it is easier on the eyes and allows better seperation of targets.
3. Get the highest pixel count you can.........this is displayed in different ways, sometimes per inch, sometimes pixels by length x width. The higher the pixel count the better the definition.

I just read a few reviews about the hummingbird 365i on basspro.com and most were positive although one user complained about the screen being too small.

I'm sure this unit would be fine for you but you would probably be happier with a larger screen. Again how large depends on your personal taste and price range. You might go to your nearest marine supply and look at as many as you can, find what you like, and then look online for the best price.

I have the 788c and like it. Even so, I wouldn't mind bigger yet when traveling at speeds...Good luck.

I have the 597ci combo and really like it. Seems all the Hummingbirds are pretty good.

I agree, I have had great luck with Humminbirds. I have a matrix 67 with gps and a hotmaps card. I really like it and have been using it for 4 or 5 years with no issues.
