| looking to get a little more speed out of her without losing too much on holeshot or getting up on plane anyway that is. it's only got a 25, I would go bigger but it's a brand new motor. I realize it's not gonna go a hundred mph anyway but a taste more would be nice. It's got a walking deck and livewell and all that stuff that makes it a little heavier so. I've heard people pounding a dent into the hull somewhere and that's suppose to do something but not sure what. The seem in the hull is kind of wavy where the rivets are I can probably smooth them out a little but looking for something a little more substantial maybe! |

| What kind of speed are you getting now? We've got a couple similar boats, an 85 lunker V16 with a 40 honda and an 88 lunker V16 with a 20 merc. Both boats are tillers. The 40 runs 31-32 with me and trim adjustment and the 20 runs 24 mph with me and no trim adjustment. I'd guess the only thing you could do is change props, but you'll lose holeshot especially with a load. The 20 slows to 18 mph with 3 guys and the 40 still runs 28 with four in the boat.
All said I wouldn't change a thing with a newer boat, especially not pound a dent into it! If you want to go faster get a bigger motor or faster boat. |

Location: Des Moines IA | Do you have a tach for the 25? The right prop will have the motor running in it's upper end of rpms with a medium load. I went from a 17 pitch prop on my 1700 Tuffy with a 70 4 stroke suzi, which ran at about 5100 rpms and 30 mph. To a 15 pitch prop at 5900 rpms, and lost .5 mph, but my hole was cut in half. I'd worry more about running the correct rpms, than I would about top speed. Our boats will never be speed demons, and it's harder on the motor to run lower than recommended rpms. My .02$ |

Location: Kodiak, AK | MM said it well. You need to make sure your motor is running where it needs to before you look elsewhere. Prop pitch, motor mounting height, trim on plane all go into producing RPM's and ultimately performance and speed. |

Location: oswego, il | Agreed, be glad you can plane it with a load. I have a 14' princecraft with a 25 johnson. It would not come out of the hole for nothing. I put a fin on it. Top speed with me according to the depth finder is 29.7mph. Two people 24-25. Three people 17-21, 4 people and it won't plane, 13mph. She gets up at about 16mph.
Before the fin, it would not get up and plane with 2 people every time and three people never.

| I will have to borrow a clip on to plug wire type to determine the rpm's. It will get up on plane with three people. slows down considerably from just me to another person. a buddy figured with just me maybe 25mph. I am not sure but will find the above mentioned info out. my concern is mainly due to getting to point a to point b on bigger lakes the quickest without it burning up all my fuel by the time I get there! |

Location: Des Moines IA | The motor will actually be less efficent if the rpm's aren't in their sweet spot. Get it propped to the correct rpm's and live with it, that's about all you can really do. |
