I recently bought a fishfinder for my trolling motor and when I went to put it on, I noticed that the prop section has a "skeg" on it. It's an older motor (1996?) and I was wondering if it is a neccessary part. I'm thinking of having it removed and want to know if it would effect how the motor works.

All trolling motors I've seen have had the skeg. Don't know why you'd want to remove it, but I'd advise against it.

Sounds good, looks like I'll have to be creative with where I put the transducer.

Johnny Ray makes a mount so your transducer rides sorta side saddle. There's a picture near the bottom of their home page.

That thing is pretty cool. Maybe I'll see if I can figure something out on my own to use.

The skeg on the trolling motor actually protects the transducer from damage. I wouldn't remove it.
