99 degrees F -> in the shade here in rural Mauston WI @ ~3:30PM. Are those Muskies feeding in this heat?

My stepson (Billy Murphy)got a 44.5" last night after work on Petenwell. His personal best so far-> she swam away strong.

How's the heat in your area?

I recently caught my biggest musky (48") in mid-afternoon on a blistering hot and sunny day. I was trolling a Grandma along one side of the main river channel in a local flowage system.

Welcome to my world...can't believe you guys are getting hammered this bad up there. A feeding "binge" occured on a river here about 3 weeks or so ago in this blistering heat, so I guess they will, but this was on a river + my thinking is a lake would be different![:sun:]

Sponge One- Sounds like we're three weeks behind you. Petenwell "Flowage" is an impoundment of the Wisconsin River. Actually second largest body of water in the state. So it has some characteristics of both, including current in the old river channels, etc. That's where the fish were, i.e. adjacent to the channels.

I'm seeing most action after periods where the water temp is down for some reason usally a rain the night before and a slight wind. Otherwise don't waste the time. Its a hard bite and hard on the fish. Go early in the morning or late at night or look for the times where it is going to be a little cooler.

This year I am having good results during the summer. 7 fish and 3 lost in the last two trips. I think the difference is where I am fishing than anything else.

Al, it's hot down here too. I do my 2.6 mile walk in 38 min in it.

When the temps get that hot I like to put up the top and troll the deep for big girls. Believe me they are down there and couldn't care less if it was 100 or 80. [:sun:]
