Jason, can you give me information on how an east wind effects fishing? I think it deals with pressure, but can you give me some facts? I have proven over and over fishing with an east wind, northeast or southeast wind it’s tough fishing. Bad day fishing beats a good day at work, I know this. Please explain an east wind.

I won't try to explain the reason for the east wind, but you can find an answer to that on most weather websites. Personally, I don't let an east wind bother me. Fish are still catchable.... you just need to look in different places and offer different presentations to connect.

I was recently up on LOTW for a 4 day trip, and we had EAST winds for three of the four days..... and it was one of our best trips ever. So don't let an east wind get you down.

If you wake up in the morning and it is SUNNY with an EAST wind.... get out on your best spots because you are about to experience some fast and furious action. Usually this means some weather is moving in and the fish will be on the prowl long before you can see the weather change. These are the mornings you do NOT want to sleep in. Skip breakfast and eat a late lunch.

Once the cold front rolls in and the clouds are overhead.... hunker down in some shallow cover and snipe the fish from their hiding spots. This usually means SLOW down and get in their face... but they will still eat.

As for why/how these fronts affect the muskies.... I have my own theory which involves the swim (gas) bladder.... but it is purely a theory that has not been proven... so I'll spare ya the details. Besides, I could be totally wrong on this one too.

Don't live by the "Winds from the east, fish bite the least" fable.... try switching to "Winds from the east will wake the beast".

East winds......off Lake Michigan like I have....will make you reconsider that jlong. LOL

A good east wind will make it 45 degrees in June and September/October down right nasty. When the rest of the state is in the 60's

I have caught most of my big fish on Pewaukee with east winds, but they were never on days when I rocked the house.[;)]

"If you pitch it....they will come" is a better motto![]

Jason,
Read your post again. You said most of your BIG fish in your home area came with an EAST wind. Sure, action may suffer.... but what are you looking for? I'd rather take one big fatty than three little scrappers any day. If you stay home or sleep in because of an east wind... you are only fooling yourself. I can't think of ANY reason NOT to go fishing... and an East wind should not be a reason to lose confidence. Like I said.... A wind from the East will wake the BEAST.

When you have an East wind... don't quit.... SWING FOR THE FENCE! Yes, you will strike out a little more when you swing for the fence... but you will also hit more home runs too []

You are correct most honorable sir...[]

One should never give up, unless the god drags you off the lake with huracaine winds, down pours, tornados, and lighting. And some folks will argue with me on the last one too. LOL

But worst of all ....is the WIFE.... she always drag us off the lake...LOL

If you pitch it...they will come![]

What's a wife? Oh yeah, that thing that divorces you and takes everything you have. I remember now.[;)][:knockout:]
