Location: Green Bay, WI | I was at my boat dealer today, talking about installing a Humminbird 997SI on my Lund Tyee. My dealer told me that there have been some issues with the live-well inlet screen obstructing the transducer, towards the port side of the boat. The little inlet screen protrudes almost 2 inches from the back of the transom, and apparently this is right in the way of the Humminbird transducer.
So I am wondering if anyone has tried installing a Side Imaging unit on a Lund with the current model inlet screen? If so, did you run into any problems--and how did you solve them?
I was thinking that a person could just install a standout spacer to kick the transducer out from the transducer a bit, and that would be enough for the sonar waves to clear the inlet. This might require you to tilt the motor up a bit, but if you are using the SI feature at lower speeds most of the time, that doesn't seem like that much of an issue...

I plugged all my drain and fills and took the screens off. Perhaps you might consider it or the mount block should work.

| Frankies in Chisago City, MN has a spacer made for this type of application.
The best guy to talk with is Grandpa Joe, real name Joe Carlson. I think his website is <www.theboatguy.com> and I'm sure he has rigged one? He should have an answer for you.
You may want to pay someone to rig it? The transducer is pretty picky to it's location and it makes all the difference in the world. I've had one for 2 years and Grandpa Joe rigged it, and I've rode in other boats with them. My reads better than all of them.

I can call that outfit tomorrow. The website is just a placeholder, as there is nothing of substance there yet. A fellow on the WalleyeFIRST forum gave me some ideas, and very kindly uploaded a video of his finished installation:

| Looks like a good solution to me. Here is a great website for Side Imaging questions. If you post a picture of your boat they will tell you where to put it. I get a lot of info from this site.

Location: Green Bay, WI | Yes, that is a good site--been watching it for some time now. There is also a Yahoo group for SI technology as well. Very helpful. I probably won't be getting the unit for a few weeks yet, but it's never to early to figure this all out.

Got in touch with Joe today, thanks a million Jason. Sounds like a great guy and is going to help me get the installation right. I may end up even taking my boat over there, as it sounds like it might be well-worth the drive just to have him look at the installation of all the electronics. The guy seems like a walking encyclopedia of knowledge on all-things electronic!
