Posts: 406 Location: Stones throw away...finally!! | Hi all, Uncovered the boat this afternoon to blow the cobwebs out and noticed my skimmer type transducer mounted to my trolling motor was broken. I have been looking at them and notice that there are 2 styles, accorinding to Lowrance website, a skimmer style that I have now, and a puck style that they say are for trolling motors. I was wondering if anyone had any input as to what style I should replace mine with. It seems that through this rediculous winter, between the pressure of the cover on the transducer and the cold weather, it snapped the neck of the skimmer. I also know of people breaking them on rocks and such. If there is no benefit to the skimmer style as far as performance is concerned, I was thinking about changing to the puck style to try and prevent it from happening again as it would mount tighter to the trolling motor. Any input on benefits or drawbacks to the puck style or skimmer style would be helpful. Thanks for the help. Oh, it would have temp on it, not that it probably matters, but I thought I would mention it anyway.

Posts: 550 Location: So. Illinois | I have the same unit. I also had the skimmer transducer that broke. I replaced it with the puck style and am happy with it. Far less susceptible to breaking. Jerry

Posts: 550 Location: So. Illinois | I bought Devon cement and glued mine together several times but it just got to the point where I could not rely on it anymore - kept breaking when I hit stumps and stuff unter the water. The puck style holds up much better. I had to do a little adjusting of my trolling motor to make sure the puck was pointed straight down but I still think it is a much better option Jerry Edited by AFChief 3/30/2008 8:11 PM

Posts: 406 Location: Stones throw away...finally!! | Thanks everyone. Just so I am sure, is the correct puck style number PDT-WBL (106-74)? The answers you gave are pretty much what I expected, it is just nice to hear real world references. Thanks again.

Here is the link if you don't already have it. http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Accessories/ Also, the 106-74 is with the temp sensor, the 106-73 is without the temp sensor.
