Location: ne53 | Just curious, what's the oldest reel some of you still use now and then. Some times I'll use a 1974 model ABU 5500C. Any family hierlooms being used out there?

| Whenever I have a bait in the prop wash, it is on my Father's red 6500 Ambassadeur. My Dad died in 1986, and it is nice to hear his reel go off, when a nice one hits on 5 feet of line. His reel is also from the 1970s. When I cast, I use black 6000C models, two have had high speed gears added, the other has original gears and I use it to cast cranks. There may be better reels, but these reels from the 1970s, suit me just fine.

| You'd be surprised at how many guys show up at Rollie & Helen's to have line put on their old reels. I've seen plenty of 1950's era reels still being used. Last week two older gents came in with antiques (two Abu and one Plueger) that were beautifuly maintained and operating just fine. They still had some old Dacron on them. We brought them up to speed with new super braid and they're ready to go fish! |

| I've got a red Abu 5500 from 1979 and a black Abu 6500ca,1980,that I still use from time to time. When I was a kid, I can't remember how many 18 hole rounds of caddying I had to do to pay for those reels. Never part with them! Kdawg |

Location: Milwaukee, WI | I'm still using my red Abu 6000 bought in 1970. I updated it with higher speed gears & ball bearings from Coren's Rod & Reel Shop in the 80s.
Its still going strong. |

| Although I still have them, the oldies don't see much action anymore. Great memories though. Some 60's-70's 5000's, 6000's, 6500's and the venerable Zebco Cardinal 4's. Steve |

| Still fishing a Shimano Bantam Mag 201 sg ( circa 1977 ) Bass and walleyes only though. Still using my old Abu`s 6500/5500 from the 80`s. |
