Hi, I have a question about spray paints, and mabye a little dangerous. Do any of you think it would be possible to hold a can of spray paint upside down and exhaust all of the pressure out of the can, then cut the can and pour the paint into a jar for later use in an airbrush? Thanks for your opinions

If you do this make sure you let all the gas go and then wait a day and let the gas out again. You will be cooling down the gas inside and it will trap some in the cooling paint. If you open the it can "bump" on you and paint everywhere including your eyes, mouth, etc. I would also start with a small hole tapped in to one side and them tape it and do the same on teh other side. Then you can pour out the paint letting air in from the other side. As for the viability of the paint into and out of an airbruch?????No clue???? I am sure it still has pleanty of solvent in it and you coudl always add more.

The only thing I can think to ask is WHY? There are plenty of airbrush specific paints out there, I dont see a reason to risk a major mess or worse to get paint out of a spray can, which may then foul up your airbrush.

I have done this. Because dupli-color rattle can paint has a real nice chrome color paint that I like and I couldn't match anywhere else, I spray it directly into my color cup on my Iwata and then spray it from there with the airbrush. Works great and you don't have to go through all that hassle that was just talked about. I learned that from a taxidermist who does it all the time.

I wouldn't do it, too messy and way too much hassle. You can get almost any color you want anyway.

Riverman,

I was just giving him an option rather than doing what he wanted to do. I have done what I said and it works fine, no mess, no hassle....
