Posts: 331 Location: Stevens Point, Wisconsin | Was Night fishing on Vermillion last week and watched a potential Darwin contestant right before my eyes. I was fishing a reef with a buddy off of Indian point about 10:30 pm. The reef was marked by three buoys with one on each end and one in the middle where the reef was exposed. I notice a boat moving pretty good towards us and started thinking, “hear comes another ranger to join us again”. Well as the boat reaches the first buoy it comes off plain right on top of the buoy and immediately hits reverse to avoid running over the buoy. Once the boat was clear of the buoy they go throttle down and make a semi circle around the buoy. The semi circle takes them directly over the reef about 20 yards from us! I tried waving my headlamp but they never did see it and crunch no more lower unit! They were very very lucky to not have had the whole bottom of the boat torn off; in fact I’m a little perplexed how it did not? Nothing like the smell of lower unit oil at night. We pulled up to them to make sure everyone was all right only to find a ski boat full of drunks. We asked if they had a GPS and they said they did but didn’t have it turned on because they live on the lake? It’s pitch black out and the area is riddled with reefs, I don’t care how many years you have navigated those waters that is just crazy! We made sure they had someone available to tow them back and we continued fishing. As we left them they asked us if we wanted a beer. I replied that drinking and driving impairs my ability to navigate at night. Unbelievable! As we pulled away with the trolling motor you could hear the sound of beer cans popping open. On our way back in later, we ran across the boat that was on its way to tow them home. We flagged them down and thought we would point out where the boat they were looking for was drifting, to our surprise the occupants of the rescue boat were also pickled! I guess Vermillion is as crazy as people make it out to be!

| "....a reef with a buddy off of Indian point ....The reef was marked by three buoys with one on each end and one in the middle where the reef was exposed. " LOL....with that discription you might find two or three people on this board that don't know the name of the reef you were on....LOL | |||

Posts: 227 Location: Maple Grove | Yup, I agree with GMan. I don't want those guys out on any lake I am fishing. Now I will have a beer or two while fishing, but getting sauced and ripping around not only puts yourself in danger, it puts everyone on the water in danger as well.

Posts: 331 Location: Stevens Point, Wisconsin | At the time all we were thinking about was if they were all right. About the time I thought about taking down the reg # they had drifted off the reef. I should have no doubt about it, but for some reason it just wasn't on my mind at the time. My bad!

Posts: 20278 Location: oswego, il | It won't be long before something really bad happens on the lake. I take my kids into rice bay alot and some bozos go through that creek full throttle at dark. It has blind spots as it is and people fish in the creek during the day. I really like the resort but I may shop around for next year.
