Posts: 117 | Got a question for you seasoned guys out there, wanna see what you would do. We got a lake here that has your common structure.. Sand, mud bottoms, rock, a dam which dont flow but there are rocks that run from it. Some lillys and weeds (cant ID the weeds for you sorry). The lake does get a good amount of pressure (mostly bass). muskies are here but rarly seen and there are tigers in this lake too. Muskie Inc does stock here too. The lake is 1450 acres Avg depth from the bank is 40 foot deepest is 90 foot but there is 5-10' weed flats all along the bank. There are alot of points to hit but NO islands. There is a TON of bait fish in this lake.. Rumor has it that the Muskie and hybrid stripers are just doing nothing but feeding on these fish and at night you can hear BIG splashes. Besides live bait.. what would you do with a description of a lake like this? water temp right now has to be really warm... prob 70-80F. so? WHAT WOULD YOU GUYS DO?

Posts: 2024 | Troll the baitfish schools. Find the stripers if you can and troll the heck out of that area. If you don't bag a muskie maybe you'll pop a nice striper!!! Is this a shad based reservoir? If so, maybe concentrate your efforts on points which tend to hold gizzard shad, but probe the weed flats during the day as well. I'd try it all... lol

| if the water temp is above 78 i'd leave the muskie alone. it's too much stress for them to handle. if not i'd try and match the hatch so to say. if you see fish busting all over shad on the surface. topwaters may be a good idea. or you can troll shad base lures if the baitfish are shad right below the big schools of baitfish. i would imagine if the water temps are that warm you are going to find fish in areas that have weeds relatively close by and probably not deeper than 25 feet. | |||

Posts: 941 Location: Freedom, WI | If they are poppin the surface a walk the dog topwater and I would favor the smaller ones (my Recon, Baby Weagle, Zara Spook, Jackpot and Lee Tauchen makes one also) and fast. For subsurface I would go to a fast moving glidebait (not all glidebaits can be moved fast), I am talking fast and radical going for the reaction strike. Keep working the points and baitfish and look for the Spot on the Spot. I favor speed over slow, but that is just me.

Posts: 203 | work suspendos with a DDD, don't necessarily need baitfish but definitely concentrate out from points and inside turns. I fish a lake similar to what you described and definitely some brutes in the lake. good luck bret
