Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with some of the L.E.D. boat lighting now available. I was looking at the rope lighting in particular. Doing alot of night fishing, it is nice to have ample light when needed, my rig has virtually none, and I want to get a/some decent ones that will illuninate a good area. I know white light attracts bugs, but that is what I want, so that will help narrow it down some. I think I'll go with some of the aaa battery operated hatch lights for in livewells and storage, but when it comes to deck/floor/interior lights, there are som many to choose from it is mind boggling, and I really don't want to cut into the boat unless I know they are going to be sufficient(would rather not cut into the boat at all.... If you have pics or tips on what you run for boat battery operated lights, fire away.

Posts: 331 Location: Stevens Point, Wisconsin | Hey Jason, Did we talk about this in Fleet Farm? I installed some of the LED red rope lighting on my buddies boat. Really works well installed under the gunwales and does not blind you. It was easy to install and can be cut to any length you need (can be cut every 6") I had him order it from http://www.sailorsams.com/mall/led-rope-lights.asp Not sure if this will work on a boat without gunwales but you could always store it coiled up and then pull it out when you need it? Give me a call if you have any questions. Ed 715-340-9101

For example our new rescue truck our fire department purchased has one of the brand new all LED lightbars on top. This baby is bright and the whole thing draws less than 5 amps. The halogen lightbars on our other trucks draw upwards of 100 amps. The LED's have a life of something like 150.000 to 200,000 hours. I recently bought about 200 white and red LED bulbs and all the resistors so I can make myself some extra light for things. I am going to install some in the boat as well, I have nice metal holders for them or I can put them in a small housing for other lights to convert them to LED. I will post pictures or show you when I do this.

I just returned that rope llighting to exchange it for an l.e.d. 6 inch/12 bulb light. I never wired in that rope lighting. I just read alot here on those led's and how the white light is blinding. I know that because of what my stern light does to my eyes. I still may add a red rope l.e.d. later. Depends on how bright the red led turns out to be.
