Muskie Fishing -> Fishing Reports and Destinations -> Status of Kinkaid

A buddy and I are heading south in a couple of weeks.

We are wondering if anyone can provide a report on Kinkaid (water temps, clarity, location of the state-record fish and what lure she would like to inhale at what time of the day, etc.).

Any recommedations for lodging and night-life would also be appreciated.

Hey FWT,

I am up here in the Chicagoland area right now for the Spring Classic at Bass Pro Shops, but will be returning down there next week. I will post an updated conditon on Kinkaid once I get back and get on the water. It looks like the pre-spawn fishing might suffer from all of the recent rain, but they will leave the muddy water and spread out on the lake after the end of this month, after they are down spawning! Thank God!!

Thanks in advance ...

What kind of night-life is there around Murphysboro...(drink a beer, tuck a buck, shoot some pool, etc.)?

I received this update from Al N. this morning...

Main lake temps are 45-46 degrees, bays are 47, the backs of the bays are 49-50 (just about right for a big fish or two!!)

Can't really testify as to the clarity as we have had a pretty substantial rain over the last 24 hours....on Sunday, clarity was as
follows-
near dam (~3 feet)
Main lake islands (~2 feet)
Cochran Bay (~1.5 feet)
Entrance to upper no-wake zone (<1 foot)

Best baits have been:
small bucktails (mepps)
8 & 10 " Jakes
Believers
Spinnerbaits
Rat-l-traps

As far as night life, there is plenty of things to do. Go to 17th Street Bar and Grill for dinner in Murphysboro, and as far as dollar stuffers, there are a few decent places in DeSoto to try out. Head north on Hwy 51.
