| Just wondering what you guys use to personalize your baits with? I've been using Pilot metalic silver and gold pens, but have been having promblems with smearing when applying the first clear coat. I fixed that with first applying fingernail polish over the pen, but its kind of a pain in the ass and sometimes that crackles the paint. Any info would be much help. |

Location: Oregon | I use a thin pointed permanent marker. After the signature I let dry for at least an hour. If using etex, you have to wait about 10 mins after mixing the clear coat to prevent smearing...have no idea why. The other option is to spray the signature with clear lacquer (rustoleum) let dry then clear coat. I know some guys like HR use a gel pen which I have been wanting to use but haven't tried yet.

I can't see how a gel pen would work better than a permanent marker. Might be easier to write with but I have used them and after the ink dried walked to the car in the rain. The gel runs when it gets wet with water so I would think using something like etex over the gel would be even worse. If you try it let me know how it goes.

Location: WI | I just picked up a 5 pack of pens for writing on pictures, gold, silver, red, blue and black from Walmart. I could'nt be happier. I sign the lures before I apply the top-coat, no runs or smears. I was using gel-pens and now after using the picture pens I won't go back.
