Posts: 8824 | I heard that if you drop a bulldawg (the newer stiffer ones with the wire-through construction) in hot water it helps soften up the tail a little. Anyone try this? How hot is hot? I don't want a pot of bulldawg soup, but if I'm missing something by not doing it, I'm boiling them all... Jeff

is this a joke or real post? any latex, rubber, plastic....petro derived product will soften when heated..just like your truck tires or the plastic lid on your tuperware containers. then when it cools, it goes back to the orignal hardness..or even harder. yes, when the tail of the dawg is hot, of course it's softer. but who the hell fishes with boiling water? (besides Tim K and Martin G) ! ha. if you think you can heat your dawgs tonight, and fish them tomorrow because they will be softer...well, then, i have some land to sell you on contract...lake front, #1 musky lake in the area. i see you asked this question on a few boards....its different, that's for sure. but i should stay of m1.com on friday afternoons at work..i have TOO Much time on my hands.

Posts: 8824 | No it's not a gag, man. The person who told me this is actually a pretty well known guide. He said basically that the old hand poured models were a lot softer and had much better action than the new injection molded models, and that you can soften them up by putting them in hot water. Sounds like bull#*#* to me, but why would a guide want me to melt all my bulldawgs?

Posts: 2112 Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | With the solid wire they are now running in Dawgs, I honestly think that it would make little difference in softening up the plastic. I feel that the Dawgs worked the best when they had sevenstrand in them. Even though that they have changed, the Dawgs have still caught 1/3 of my fish. I've got one that is held together with melting and zip-ties, is a solid wire one, and I don't think I would trade it for most people's boats (unless it is a very sweet, new boat, then maybe).
