you guys going to the barbee chain stay on the LEFT SIDE of the ramp as your facing the ramp when you launch at KUHN LAKE.
we had a club outing saturday and a friend of the King brothers came down from valpo and got caught in the hole and we tried to get him out but he was down in the washout hole. ending up BUSTING his axle on the trailer needles to say bad intro to the barbee chain. felt really bad for him. so PLEASE be careful ..karol

just to let people know the best way on that ramp is to back in just till the wheel's fender is just below and level with the water. that should be as far anyone can go on that ramp. also i have heard that there are cinder blocks in that channel too. i have seen them on the main mouth going into the channel from irish and heading between secrest and sawmill. so be aware of them too....bill

Someone ought to jump in and grab those cinder blocks and get rid of them

Over the years...I've seen numerous cinder blocks in the Barbee Chain. I've removed as many as I could and took them on land to dispose of them. I've even picked stray cinder blocks up from the shallows of Kuhn. Nowhere near where any sign would have been. Just a randon cinder block in shallows that would definitely take it's toll on someone's prop.

Based on what people were saying at the barbee lakes association meeting last weekend, I can see how they got in there. Lots of people complaining about the exotics that have gotten into the lake and the 100,000 project that is going on to clean up the mess. On top of that the complaints of the public boat launchers who do not obey the speed limit on kuhn as they head out into the chain. Not hard to figure out how they got in there.

Yes, there is a big wash hole. Kevin and myself helped a pontoon trailer completely stuck a month ago. Back in slow and keep the fenders just out of the water and you should be ok.

We will all biotch about them but we won't do anything in any organized fasion. That's the problem with us as a group. We are in such a hurry to get out on the water and maximize our individual experience for the day that we won't take an hour from that day to organize a collective effort to jump in, get a little wet and dig out some block. The sad part about that is that if we did we would not only help ourselves but all those people that may be upset about the pressure and traffic we bring to the area. Same goes for all those muskies that are trapped between the spillway and the beaver dam. At Shabbona more than a dozen people organize and walk the spillway with their nets everytime there is high water but I don't know of it happening yet in IN while bunches of them continue to be harvested by locals.
