Subject: Tuffy Esox Mag Console Question

Is it possible to have side by side seating in this boat without the addition of a rear casting platform? I was told by my dealer all along that it would be no problem to install a flat seat base along side the console seat without having to install a rear platform. After three months of waiting for a seat base from Tuffy, I find out from my dealer that the seat base cannot be placed there because of the way the gas tank is situated. One of the deciding factors in my purchase of the boat was the fact that I could have side by side seating. Had I known that the only way to do this was to add a rear platform, then I would have requested this when I bought the boat. I think if you are going to sell a product, as a dealer you should know the ins and outs of the product you are selling. How else can you be assured to give your customer what they want. Any input you could give me to help solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Between Steve Worrall, your dealer, and the factory, your options should be able to be worked out. I have an Esox Magnum with the console and was told that the gas tank didn't allow a second seat along side the driver seat. I prefer not having the seat during fishing and underway. The folded up Frabel net fits out of the way under the casting platform. A passenger can sit on the casting deck adjacent to me without discomfort. For pure fishing flexibility, a second seat would be in the way, atleast in my experience.
Good Luck.

Now if I were to decide that I wanted to add the rear casting deck to the boat, could that be done at the dealer or would the boat have to go back to Tuffy? From what I have heard the cost to put in the rear deck is about $650.00. My dealer seems to think that it could be done there, but they were wrong about the side by side seating so I don't know what to believe. Mr. Worral do you have any answers for me?

Send Steve an e-mail direct rather than waiting for him to see a post.

I'm pretty sure you should be able to put a rear seat in an Esox Mag by using a 4" access hole and use the right length ss machine screws w/nuts instead of ss sheetmetal screws. Your dealer just has to be carfull cutting and dilling the neccesary holes.
The rear casting deck is a relativly easy install. Tuffy will furnish you with all the brackets and hardware you need. It's a removable platform that uses 2 pinned hinges in the rear and just sets on a support bracket on either side in the front of the platform. I think a rear casting platform is a must in any boat.
