Subject: Battery operated Hook Sharpeners

Hi,

After reading the hook sharpeners post below, I wanted to know if anyone uses the Berkley battery operated hook sharpener HS1 for hook sizes from 6-10/0. I've got the Luhr Jensen yellow file which works great but sometimes especially on the water, I'd like to save some time touching up 9 hook points on all the 5/0- 7/0 trebles on each lure. That's where a fast battery operated hook sharpener might excel.

Does these battery operated hook sharpeners work well on musky size treble hooks? And if so, do you stick the hook as far as possible in the hole and then hold for like 5s or longer? There are no instructions on the package that I saw in the local tackle shop.

I would stick to the flat file. I have tried the battery operated models and I was not satisfied they could do the job I was looking for.

Stick with the flat file, the battery hook sharpeners seem to work OK for smaller fish hooks but I think they suck for Musky and Pike hooks!

The battery ones are junk, they don't do the job on the bigger hooks they will just file them down on you.

You can't beat the old flat file to put a nice edge on your hooks.

The battery operated ones don't have enough juice in them to sharpen a big hook, the motor dies out. Go with a flat file or double round file like I like to use.

I do know some folks who use a battery powered Dremel and a diamond wheel. I have one, but out the water, the flat file seems to be as quick and simple as anything........

Sounds like we are going to put the battery powered ones out of business, at least for Muskie fishermen.

I too tried one..JUNK. Not near enough power, would stall out to a stop.

I love the flat Luhr-Jensen one as well. With a little practice on all your new Christmas goodies you will be fast and efficient with it.
