Posts: 1245 Location: Madtown, WI | OOPPS...it iddn't save my question for some reason... Here it is- I have heard all about the full moon and cisco spawn...what about the new moon?? do they make shallow runs and spawn during the new moon?? Anyone have sucess fishing this pattern?? Do they stay deep or slide up in the column? Or do the ciscos just keep bunching up waiting for the new moon.... Cory Edited by C.Painter 10/21/2004 12:52 PM

Posts: 32 Location: Sherry, WI | Cory - I'm sure you'll receive several differing opinions regarding your question. Here's my take. I actually fish for spawning ciscos, nighttime, lanterns over the side of the boat or next to the hole in the ice. In the lakes that I fish ciscos like this, the ciscos spawn during the first weeks of December. Peak spawning activity always occurs under a whole moon, new or full doesn't matter. This year, December 11, the new moon, will be the peak of cisco spawn where I fish them. And, ohhhh, the predators we occasionally see while dangling ice tears on one pound test...

What does matter is finding where the ciscos are and will be, and key in on those areas. I haven't witnessed the spawn itself yet, but have caught some good fish just out from where they were staging to spawn.

What type of bottom do the cisco's spawn over? How deep? We have full moon in November just before the season closes here in Wisconsin, where will the cisco be? thanks

Posts: 2037 Location: lansing, il | the way it was explained to me is that they are attracted to the shallows by light of the full moon at the right water temp. i dont know what the temp is, but finding out the right water temp, with a clear full moon night would be the ideal conditions the way it was explained to me.
