I'll be heading to Canada in a few weeks and was wondering what I needed to have with me to cross the border. Thanks

A drivers license will suffice. I took my passport up this year for re-entry to USA in case of serious terrorist activity late this summer. I am worried that it will happen before the elections. I don't go home until mid Sept. I have crossed the border a bunch of times already and the US side is tougher than the Canadian. If you have children other than your own with you, you may need a notarized permission slip from the parents or legal guardian giving you permission to have the child with you. Other than that, a picture ID for yourself is all you need.

Nothing is usually needed, but they might check your Driver's License. Bring along a passport though, I was in Canada during 9/11 and we couldn't return back for several days. In case something happens, always have your passport!

We went to Canada last year, and got through ok, but they sure wanted a pass port. I think it depends where you cross at. I've crossed at Int. Falls about 7 times, and no trouble. Went up interstate 29,and crossed, and that's where they wanted the pass port. I wasn't mad, and visited about it. They said they have more time to check. So that's Ok. Maybe the guard, that was 4ft. 7, with a dirty harry on his side had something to do with it also. I'd take a pass port the next time. Good luck Doug

How/where do I obtain a passport? Also, does anyone have a number for the office at Int. Falls?

You can get a passport application at the Post Office. If you do a google you might find a form available on some government web site too. Complete the application and mail with a photo that meets their specifications. You may want to stop at the local camera shop where they can take your photo to fit the passport specifications. If your trip is soon, you may not be able to get a passport in time. Last I heard it was at least 6 weeks turnaround time.

Turn around time is about 6 weeks. I work in the Clerk of Courts Office a couple times a week and here then repeat that several times a day.

That is another option for you to get you passport. Check with your local clerk of courts office. They'll be able to help you too.
