Muskie Fishing -> Fishing Reports and Destinations -> Bass Lake, In.

Subject: Bass Lake, In.

Fished Bass lake for the first time on Saturday. Water temps ranged from 46 to 48 degrees. I started across from the boat ramp on the windblown shoreline. Within the first 15 minutes of casting I hooked up with my second Hoosier muskie of the year (See Tippy report 1-02-04 on my website for 1st fish of the year). This one was 30.5 inches and ate a Super Shad Rap. Things slowed down for the next couple of hours so I decided to cast some of the deep holes in the lake. I switched to a bulldawg and casted the open water. Ten minutes later I got a follow from a mid 30 that came in fairly hot. A half hour passed and I got another follow from an upper 30 inch fish that was not as hot as the last one. Time ran out for me so I packed it up and called it a day. See my website at www.icemansguideservice.com for more Hoosier muskie fishing reports.

Karol,

Bass Lake is one of the Dugger Units. It is off of Hwy 54 just West of Dugger. Good luck out there.

Great news to me that Bass Lake near Dugger has Muskies! I didn't know that. Mike, do you know particulars like when the lake was stocked and how big the muskies might be by now? I live in Brown County near Nashville and this would be pretty much my closest muskie opportunity besides Plover and Sandpiper pits near Columbus, IN
and while I've seen some 30" class 'skies in there, I've never connected and I think that the locals keep everything they catch out of there. A guy told me the other day that he caught a 37" there a couple of weeks ago while crappie fishing and that " there's alot of meat on one of those things, they eat real good!"
I told him they were not really for eating and he looked at me like I was Saddam.
Thanks for any info you might have!

Muskies have been stocked in there for about 5 or 6 years now. West Black Cat has muskies in it too. I'm guessing with the forage base that they are upper 30's to low 40's by now with a mutant mid 40 posibly. Good luck and check out my website www.icemansguideservice.com. I post a report after every trip.

First of all allow me to clarify the info I posted back on March 19th. Black Cat and West Lake are two different lakes connected by a dranige culvert that runs under C.R. 275 E. Muskies were first stocked in these two lakes last October so if they survived the winter then their average size will only be about 14". West and Black Cat Lakes are located west of Bass Lake and just west of Duck Lake. Hope this helps and clears up any confusion.
