The closest muskie lake is Pomme de Terre. It can be pretty good at the right times of the year and has an active Muskies, Inc. chapter. There are muskie tournaments every year on Pomme de Terre. There are quite a few muskie lakes in Missouri but most of them are in the north portion of the state. Illinois also has some muskie waters in the south area, most notably Kinkaid Lake. You will like living in Springfield...nice area, nice people and lots to do. Good luck with your new job. Posts: 2 Location: st paul | What about impounded stripers or other Big Fish opportunities? I've got all the big lake gear and would like to be able to use it other than on Michigan How long a drive to Cave Run, or any of the Tenessee Res's? Is the catch and release ethic strong in these waters? The though of leaving muskie mecca and heading to bass country has this boy concerned, I don't fish bass except smallies on the fly. I know there's plenty of trout opportunities as well, which helps. Variety is the key to my fishing happiness. Thanks for any help!

Posts: 360 Location: Tinley Park. Fish Cen IL. Bass & Vilas Cty.Muskie | I had a house on Table Rock from 1987 to 1998. Here is what I know:You can catch big walleyes on the upper Bull Shoals lake(50 miles from Springfield) from Fall thru Spring..Lake Tannycommo(40 miles) has super Trout fishing all year with winter for big ones(some 20+).Also has a big bass population from Branson to Bull Shoals dam in all the creeks(10.lbers are caught every year> they love eatting those small trout). Table Rock(40 miles)- real good lake for everything- coming back from peak in early 90's.BeaverLake (75miles) has a decent bass population but has huge Stripers(never fished these and when I was down there the only fish busting shad were bass.Stockton Lake (35 miles ) has smallies . TrumenLake (50 miles) has great summertime crappie. If you are going it gets real hot from mid June to mid September with tempertures almost always in the 90's. The south part of Springfield is growing fast but there is plenty of great housing all around the city with big lots and many with a few acres.Alot of people now live on one of the Lakes and commute to Springfield every day. It is a really nice place to Live..the average temps in the winter are in the low 40's.Hope this helps> Roy
