Noticed the inside of my rims are coated with oil. Can't see through the sight glass to see how far down I've run them since they started leaking. Do I:

1. Drain/refill them, see how much comes out, keep them topped off and hope for the best (doesn't sound like a good idea)

2. Pull them apart and replace the seals/bearings (can't be that difficult)

3. Just order new hubs and be done with it

Hiya,

#2

Bearings may not need it, so it may just be a tear down, replace the seals, reinstall, and fill up the hubs.

Definitely not #1.

The full hub assembly really is not that expensive from Ranger. And it's comes completely assembled and ready to go just put them on and fill with lube. Mine were 15 years old so that's what i did.

#2 if your ambitious and want to save some bucks.

1 is the worst color to choose, 2 for the contrast and three is all of last years overtime is burning a hole in your pocket.

I had to do mine last season. When tracking down parts (which I eventually got from Pacific Trailers) I was told that the tapped hubs are no longer available from Ranger they have gone to the hybrid which of course would not retro fit my single axel trailer. It was suggested that I just go to grease. After some research I was able to determine that Ranger uses UFP Trailer components, which I got from Pacific Trailers. Was able to find what I needed ALOT cheaper for seals etc. The tear down was related to a prior tear down a week before and the sight hub coming loose on a 2 hour trailer run, how I didn't melt spindle is beyond me. Centrifical force I guess. What I learned dealing with Pacific is THESE ARE NEVER TO BE REUSED as the press fit of them is used up when installed. This was news to me, and I was #*^@ lucky I didn't have problems earlier on the 6 years life from prior change.

Call ranger and see if you can get the vortex style hubs . Around $100 each for the full hub assembly . Replace all the hubs and be done. Less headache.

Hiya,

Another option available to you is to use your existing hubs and axles and convert them to use the liquilube oil bath system. It would be really no different than what you have now, and would be changing out the parts to the liquilube system from the ranger system you have now....most likely the rear seal and the outer hub cab and retaining system.

I have yet to convert, but have thought long and hard about it...end of year, drain and refill, while checking for play in the hub. If no play, refill. If play, adjust and refill.

Quick, and easy...
