Location: north central wisconsin | Just got back from our second trip to Kenora area, and this trip was much better than the last. 8 of us went with 6 of us musky fishing each day. Monica and I were there for 4.5 days and the others stayed 1 more day. We ended up with 34 muskies total with 29 over 34", and 16 between 39" and 49.5". We had a contest for the most and a contes for biggest for which I won both with a four footer and 8 fish. Monica got a couple with 41" the biggest and a 40" pike also. Pattern was totally this: move fish by day and go back after dark to get the strike. We got 17 muskies after dark. Chuck Schauer wife got the 49.5"(too bad she didn't get into contest) in the middle of the day next to camp on a teasertail, otherwise all big fish came near or well after dark. I got my two biggest on a Rylure globe(44 and just shy of 4 foot). I tried a new glider jerkbait up there on the second to last day and was glad I did, raising 17 muskies on it and catching 3 up to 42". Raised several on it that I was able to go back to after dark and catch, and saw 3 over 48 on it with two over 50". It was one of those deals where I wished I used it earlier in the week. Main lake structure was hot, with bare rock(boulder strewn flats), and tobacco cabbage patches around boulders producing best. Of course, windy was better, and the wind swithced often, but fish set up immedeately in it. Saw a surprising number of fish suspended out between spots, and those were the big girls. It was hard to pinpoint them again on the return at dark, but occasionally were able to conect with them again on one of the two pieces of structure they were near, luckily. Only other pattern was the if you were not casting to 0' of water after dark on the spots, you were out of it. The fish were so shallow in the evenings/after dark that we could not believe a few of them. Of coures deep water was mere yards from almost every fish, and the main lake was usually the deep water. One cool thing was that I was lucky enough to get a 43.5"er on a Reef hawg(one I got from Handys garage sale) by Kenora, next to the store while Monica bought her license. Good thing she was on her way out of the store, as I needed her to run and grab the pliers.

Location: north central wisconsin | It was US inches, but it was six people too. Monica and I only got ten muskies between us two, the rest were caught by the others. We did not do nearly as well in July with only 12 caught total(we had more beer along in July).

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Sounds like a great trip. I used to go to Minaki through Kenora before the road was paved. It was a challenge, to say the least. Since I started to hit the Goon and lakes in that area, and 502 opened, I haven't been that way for awhile. Where were you fishing? |
