| I haven't been out in a while, so I can't say I have personally seen it, but I got a report that Pewaukee Lake has a new Extreme weed cutter. Now, if you don't already know it, Pewaukee Lake has many very well-to-do property owners. They are now showing how much disposable income they have. It seems their new weed cutter is an Extreme Ranger 620!
This new weed cutter was observed last night at Smokey's launch. It appears to have a unique system for cutting, and then gathering the milfoil in the lake. The cutting hardware on this Extreme Ranger is made by Cannon, and includes wire line, and heavy round balls. Power is a Merc 225 Opti, and the rig also is GPS and Sonar equipped by Lowrance.
It works like this. Lower the line and balls into the water about 12-15 feet, and following a determined path on the GPS, drive about 9 MPH from the main lake towards the launch. Depth will very from 25'+ to as little as 4'. It's the 4-8' range were it is most effective, as the wire line and balls then drag behind the rig. I guess they just drive it to the launch, and load it on the Extreme Custom RangerTrail trailer, and drive out of the lake, pulling several hundred pounds of milfoil with it. Once out of the water, there is two, 12-15' wire cables filled with the milfoil! Remove the milfoil, crank in the wire, and go home for the night! Not sure what they do with all the milfoil once they get it off the wires! |

| Shep I think you have been misinformed, that was not a high-tec weed cutting method recently developed on Pewaukee. Instead what was described to you was a new top secret method for muskies, that Mike has been working on for a short time now, He calls it the DOINK. This method employs the use of 2 downrigger balls trolled at high speed to bash the muskie into submission. It is still in testing phase, from what I understand, and I think that what you described was just Extreme going with the "Shallow Doink". Just one man's opinion. Thanks, Sanks |
