| Cleaning your rain gear is like using cheap engine oil in a Mercury. Get the good stuff like Nixwax. |

| Nixwax works excellent for waterproofing,,,However if you use the soaking treatment kind it has a few side effects..this is the kind that you soak your raingear in to treat it,,the side effects are that it also coats the inside of your bibs and jacket making them a little clammy and sticky also it coats your straps like the suspenders on your bibs making them more slippery so the clasps slip and don't hold has well,,the side effects though are an inconvenience but the waterproofing results of niixwax are great. |

| I've tried a bunch of different products. The 3m stuff helps, Camp dry helps. But unless you actually clean your rain gear, the seat/knees/elbows/etc. will still soak up water.
I finally broke down and tried the wash/treatment from nik wax a few years ago. Hooker is right about the inside and the straps, but it's a small price to pay. Follow the instructions on the wash and the treatment, and your gear will come out almost as waterproof as it was when it was new. I follow up with camp dry on the crotch, seat, knees etc where water always seems to get in.
The stuff isn't cheap, but it's a whole lot better than buying new rain gear, which I was at the point of replacing all three sets because I was tired of being soaked at the end of the day.
