| I have a old evinrude outboard, it will not engage into forward or reverse and the prop just spins as if it is not catching.
I am wondering if anyone has any knowledge on these motors and can help direct me to fix it OR is it too far gone OR is there a place near the twin cities that is a great repair shop
Any help is appreciated

Location: Central Wisconsin | Looks like your motor is a '73 6hp, so my guess would be shear pin also. There just might be a "spare" under the cowling. |

| thanks guys for the input, I took the prop off and the shear pin was in three pieces so I made a new pin out of 3/16 stainless and it engages.

Location: Watersmeet, Michigan | 316 stainless is pretty strong stuff. Suggest you get to your dealer asap and get a shear pin. Made of much softer steel, a shear pin is meant to be the "weak link in the chain," in order to protect the transmission, shaft and prop against damage.
