So we caught a 41 inch Muskie and she was pretty banged up looking..... I am thinking same spots, color, size as a fish I caught three weeks ago..... but fish I caught was a pretty thing on opener... you can tell she has been caught quite a few times... popular Muskie spot on lake.... tail is beat up head has marks but main question is the red patch on her side 4 inches long and maybe inch or two wide.... any guesses as I feel bad for the little gal.... we kept her in the net and got hooks out and scooted her off... she swam fine but...ehhhhh cause of those wounds? Guesses...?

The marks and scrapes are probably spawning scars. Muskie love is pretty brutal.

I doubt it's the same fish being caught over and over again. I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep fishing.

Could be a mishandle from another angler, laid on the carpet, flopped around and into or onto something. Spawning scars heal, I am sure this will too.

Could be spawning injuries as mentioned above. Every fish I've caught so far this year (and several of the follows) all had scrapes, scratches, open wounds, parts of fins missing, etc.

Okay... I thought it was probably spawning scars... but never have seen the bacteria from slim coming off if handled wrong.... I was thinking maybe some one let it flop in their boat etc.... anyone have a picture of bacteria.... kind of curious... this fish looked more scraped up then bacteria but since I never seen one with bacteria. I have seen one with red dot disease and that was a super sick looking fish! (Dumb Bell lake has that disease sent picture of the poor fish to DNR and that is what they said it was)....
