The Minnesota Land Trust has purchased the Lyback property on Mille Lacs Lake just west of Isle near Father Hennepin State Park!!! The MMPA supported the purchase through a conservation grant made with Legacy funding from the sales tax increase. This purchase has protected approximately 60 acres of important hardwood forest and approximately 1,200 linear feet of high quality, undisturbed shoreline on Mille Lacs Lake. The property currently supports some of the rarest and best Muskie spawning habitat on Mille Lacs Lake that was under imminent threat of development. This terrestrial and aquatic complex is essential for numerous wildlife species, including bald eagles, osprey, migratory waterfowl, spotted salamander, fish and other aquatic species. Many thanks to Sue Lyback for understanding the value of this property and seeing its protection into perpetuity. |
