Hey Guys
I need to put a new graph on the front of my boat. The question I have is this, what is eveyones thought on what is the best option for a bow mounted model. I would like to go with a Hummingbird, prolly a 700 series as I do not wanna totally break the bank. So what does everyone think is better for this application, DI or SI? Thanks for the input

I have the Side Imaging Unit in the stern, and a Down Imaging on the bow. Perfect fit for me.

If you cast a lot I would say you should go with a 858 HD or 858 HD DI. This unit is still less $$ than the 798 HD SI, and gives you a much bigger viewing area. Its all on preference, but the side imaging would be running off of your stern SI transducer and to get optimal readings you would have to be moving around 4 mph. So if I were you I would shoot for the bigger screen and forego the SI, and possibly the DI if cost is an issue.

Si or regular 2d sonar--some of the DI units dont have the capability to use the 83 frequency for their 2d and hence the coverage area of the sonar beam is much narrower. Si is great especially in shallow water, but you do have to be moving. DI is what I use the least...its just a pretty picture, I find 2d much more functional for actually fishing. As long as it has gps and good 2d im happy on the bow.

Not sure if you are partial to hummingbird but I got the new lowrance elite 7 hdi this year for my bow and it is great. A 7" wide screen and awesome hybrid downscan imaging. It is truly amazing how clear the weeds and fish look. You can tell what kind of weeds u are over. Having a nice big screen up front is great too and all for $699

Thanks for the info guys, I think I may just stick with a good ole' 2d model and get a little more bang for my buck. Might be the best way for me to go.
