| I am interested in hearing everyone's opinion on what you think the best fishfinders on the market are today. I would be interested in hearing if you have preference for main fishfinder by console and a different one for trolling motor mount. I seem to have problems with current fishfinder when going speeds over 30mph, it is an Apelco 465, do you think it is the unit or the way I installed the transducer. I am also in need of one up front by my trolling motor. I would like to spend under $200 if possible. I also just bought a new boat and it came with a Hummingbird on console which I think I am going to replace. Thanks Doc | |||

| Hi Doc, My first boat also had a hummingbird on it ( a flasher unit,LOL, showing my age I guess) and I replaced it with a Lowrance unit. When I got my new boat a couple of years ago I went with an X-85 on the dash and the same on the trolling motor, only because I got a deal on the second X-85. I like them, and my rig tops out at about 55 MPH and never had trouble with the one mounted on the transom losing its signal. Good luck! | |||

| My dad has X-91 lowrances on his boat, very awesome units. If you are looking to spend 200 bucks, i think there is an X-85 lowrance on the swap baord here. That is my recommendation. Resolution and power is best and worth the extra money. | |||

| Doc: I have a Garmin 240. It is probably the best unit I have ever had. I use it on the trolling motor because that is where I am when I'm fishing. So, I need the best unit on the front. I have a Lowrance X-75 at the console. It is OK but no match for the Garmin. I used to have a X-15 on the front, but ran into interference problems because the console and front were both the same frequency (190 mghz). This is something you will need to watch. The Garmin is 200 mghz. and does not cause problems when I have both depth finders on. The Garmin is a little more expensive, although you could buy the next model down from the 240. They have the best auto features, turn on and forget. Here is one on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1978682960 I have had Hummingbird in the past and not found them to be reliable. The problem with not reading above 30 mph is more than likely a transducer placement problem. I had the same problem which was solved when I moved the transducer to avoid turbulence from the hull and lowered it to be sure it remains in the water as the hull lifts at higher speeds. You just have to experiment to find the best location. Good Luck! | |||

| Doc - I run a Raytheon on the console and was turned on to the Eagle, like $125.00. Great finder, but screen a little small. X51 or X90 are really good - I am looking into these and will probably settle on one or the other.. I still have not personally decided what which one to get for the bow. Whichever one it is, it will be a good one that outperforms my Raytheon. Good Luck | |||

| Hi Doc, I run the X-15 on my console, and the X-51 up front. I can't say enough about the X-15. Great sonar, the best I've seen and used. I really like the X-51 to. Great resolution, and a very reasonable price. I got mine from Thornes for $169. The only thing I wish it had was brighter backlighting. Other than that, it's a great unit for up front. | |||
