How much do they charge for sale taxes for resort stays or motels (percent) these days and do they still offter a rebate for a portion of it?

Hiya,

I believe the HST is 13% which is all just one big tax rather than showing two different rates of PST and GST.

You still can get some of that tax money back but it is not as easy as stopping at the duty free shop anymore to do it...you have to fill out paperwork and send it in. Takes a little more time...

Absent specific circumstances, I do not believe the "rebates" are available anymore.  See http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/bsnss/tpcs/gst-tps/rbts/vstrs/clfrms-eng.html.  If my information is incorrect, please let me know (I'll claim MY refund!).

"To be an eligible tour package for the FCTIP rebate, the tour package must be sold for an all-inclusive price, and it must include the following elements:
•short-term and/or camping accommodation in Canada; and
•at least one service.
"

As long as a resort offers accomodations with a service meeting the regulations, you may get up to half of the 13% (Ontario) back by sending in the form. Of course, your receipt must be worded properly to receive the rebate.

Check with the resort to see if your accomodations will include a service that will qualify for the rebate.

I just noticed an international processing fee for using my debit/credit card, on my statement from last week, when we spent 10 days in Canada, a few of them in a hotel while fishing on the way up to the cabin. Looked to be about another 5% added to my room rate etc. I'll dig a bit deeper to get the total tax, and whether this fee was charged by my bank or the business..

If I remember correctly, there was no rebate available last year.
