Posts: 56 Location: Stanley, WI | I have had a few strikes with it, but have yet to put hooks in a fish. The only issue I have had is that the eyes fell off and the paint is badly chipped already and I have only used it about 4 times. That doesn't seem to have affected the performance at all though, but you would hope that the paint would last a little longer on a lure you pay $25 for. I have a cousin that has a friend with connections to the company and he said they were considering switching from wood to plastic on this model in the future. They do seem to make a nice consistent wake. I am looking forward to putting some hooks in a fish with it soon. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite topwater lures. Good Luck with it.

Posts: 222 Location: c.wis | many fish in the net this year alone because of the freak, been using brb freak for 3 yrs now since proto typing- top notch lure and most importantly it sounds different. not to mention the other stellar lures that they produce. the top shelf is another wonderful addition to a leader. and Black river bait co. also has tinsel skirts that you CANNOT find anywere else, that make a real difference. - that ware and tare on the lure you mention is what more then not triggers the strike. the unique sound it creates is what makes the freak stand out from the pack. additionaly the sound is tunable- so you can create a subtle sound, or loud, with tons of splashing. the sky is the limit, and there is a video on you tube walking you through the process- which is easy.

I have used them with good success! Caught my biggest fish last season on a black one. (48.5") I actually have 3 and 2 of them run well and the other one nose dives a little. I just reeled it fast once it hits the water and then slow down when it pops up. I still caught fish on it though. I called the company and they said they had a batch that must have had denser wood or something and they rode a little lower in the water. He said they are switching to plastics this year and he would hook me up with a deal on a plastic one to make up for the one that I had problems with. My wooden ones are pretty chewed up, so I am looking forward to a plastic version. Overall great lure that is one of my go to topwaters.

It seems mine nose dives also. I also have to reel it fast right out of the gate to get it to work. I wish it acted more like the top raider and worked all the time. I'm a little bummed.
