When running suckers on rigs do you guy's weight them to keep them lower in the water column. Let them run high? close to the boat or put them on bobbers and let them drift out? I'm new to this whole sucker game and would really appreciate your input.

depends on how you think would be best for your situation, people do all of the above! here in mn you can only have one line so probably not too many people draping them over the side for a follower to eat, but dragging them around and soaking them under bobbers is quite common

Yep--I do everything you mentioned---depends on situation / cover being fished. All will work---but I mostly fish them deeper with weight added--fishing breaks , deep weed edges and rock piles-----I use the baits for shallower situations. But I have also bobber fished then around weeds in weedy shallow water lakes. LOVE IT !!!

Like others said above, pretty much all of the above. In Wisconsing, we can run as many as we want, as long as we're within the 3 rods per person limit, and in SE Wisconsin, we can troll on most of our lakes, so it's an excellent way to cover more water as you're casting, or even just to cover water running suckers.

Typically, earlier in the fall, I'll be fishing weededges and breaklines. Because of this, I typically have one sucker on a bobber running really shallow with limited weight to cover the tops of the weeds. Then I'll put 1 on the base of the weedline (depending on how the wind is hitting that spot and boat positioning), then I put one about half way to the bottom so you're covering 3 different depth zones.

Later in the fall (post turnover), I tend to run my baits deeper as I fish deeper for the most part as the water cools. In that case, I usually have one sucker right on the bottom, one about 10' off the bottom, and then one way up again that I use for any roamers or followers (coincidentally, that one catches some very nice fish every fall).

So basically cover all parts of the water column, but consider where you are fishing and where in fall we are, and let that dictate where you're putting your suckers.

Run them however you want but DO NOT bring a fish into the bottom of your boat for 10 mins to unhook them like I saw this weekend, followed by a 5 min photo session then a 15 min release. Not to mention these newbies were trolling suckers in Vilas Cty which is illegal. Keep the fish in the water in the net while unhooking, quick set of pics and then back in the water. And DO NOT drag the fish backwards with the wind. Put the fish on the downwind side of your boat for the release and tilt the head down a bit until she regains her composure then let her go.
