| the lake i fish skyrocketed from having about a 70 degree surface temp a week ago to 79-82 degrees yesterday. In the spring/early summer I tend to fish a bit shallower water because it's warmer but the vast change over the past 7 days has me scratching my head. Would fish move back into deeper water that quickly or am I not wasting my time if i continue to fish the shallows?
Just curious if anyone has some pointers or could let me know what you prefer doing. Feels like fishing a 5-6ft bay with an 82 degree surface temp is a huge waste of my time even though I know fish like to hold there in spring. |

| It's only probably the top couple feet that jumped that much. Get a day with wind and the water temp will drop right back down to where it was or a few degrees higher. |

| I was wondering the same thing 10,000 said.. Here in Wisconsin, these crazy high temperatures have to have some kind of affect on the fish. The question is what is that affect? This hot spell is only going to last until the middle of the week and supposed to be back down to 60's by Thursday |

it sure is! weeds have grown up incredibly quick over the past week or 2. so even though the water is hot i'd imagine there should be plenty of oxygen in there for them to want to stay. i havent fished in this situation before so that's why i was asking about it.

Location: northern indiana | I fish Indiana waters and here is what I notice... Early spring soon after ice off, they will tend to move to the shallower and warmer flats as well as the baitfish. Water temps then reach mid to upper 40's and just before spawn they move to the deeper holes ( why? I'm really not sure but this is the trend I saw the past few years). They then move back to the breaklines to spawn. Once they are done with the spawn in the weedy breaklines, I have found that they stay close to the same breakline they were spawning in. I believe they do this because most baitfish hang just inside the weeds. Most of my mid-spring early-summer fishing is concentrated on the outside of these dropoffs casting parallel with them, into deeper water, and casting into the shallows as well.
