It looks like I will be staying at a resort on Gull Lake near Brainerd MN in mid-June. I understand that Gull is not a Musky lake, but I really do not have a choice as the trip has already been booked so I am stuck with Gull.

However I would really like to get a least one full day of Musky fishing in as Northern and Walleye fishing is not going to do it for me. I need some direction on where to try to get away to for a day, and the names of some reliable guides in that area to talk to with the thought of booking a day trip. I see Mille Lacs is not too far away. I wonder if such a big lake is worth looking at for a one day trip? Perhaps some smaller Musky waters in the area that I could trailer to for a day?

In reality I feel like hooking a low to mid 40's fish would be an accomplishment for me with only one day to fish. I will hold out for a monster in Sept. when I go to Ontario.

Any help is sincerely appreciated. I have spent most of my Musky fishing time in Wis. so I feel a bit lost on this one.

Go to the mn dnr lake finder and check out alexander, shamineau, fishtrap, round (on the border of camp ripley), cedar (aitkin), baby, man, little boy, wabedo, and woman. These should all be within an hour's drive or close to of Gull. Do a little research and pick the one you find most intriguing.

Alexander and Shamineau are two good choices if you want lakes that you can pick apart on a one day trip. Mille Lacs isn't as hard as you'd think, but June could be a bit slow there.

Call Tim Anderson in the Brainerd area. He does a great job guiding in that area. I've never fished with him but the people that have had great things to say about him.

I would head north from Gull instead of south. Baby is probably your best bet to put a fish in the boat IMO. High numbers with some quality fish as well. Also it is not that hard of a lake to learn for someone new to the lake.

Thanks for the help guys. I don't have a lot of hope to put a fish in the boat with only one day of fishing on musky waters, but I do appreciate the help. Hopefully a day will be enough with some good advice!
