Hey Guys, I'm picking up a 6600 C4 over the next couple days and was wondering what parts it was that you guys replaced on them to upgrade or prevent problems down the road! I know I read something about the drag washers and/or something else! Wheres the best place to have this work done?

Swap the gears out for 5.3:1 gears and it will last a lot longer! You can always replace the gears later, might as well get some use out of the ones they come with.

Besides carbon fiber drag discs, I replaced my pawl with a ceramic one. You can upgrade the bearings as well. You can get the parts at Mikes Reel Repair.....

While it does somewhat defeat the purpose of buying the C4 for high speed, I, like Tim, also replaced the gears in mine to 5.3:1, which made it a C3 for the most part, and it now lasts longer between repairs. I liked that it had a thumbar, so I did gain.

There is no reason to replace the drag washers already in the C4's as they are already a carbon matrix. You can replace pawl with high performance ones if you want but in all honesty it will not get you anymore distance or smoothness, just keep the stock ones clean and you're good to go.

Right, mine didn't come with the carbon discs. Also, the ceramic pawl is for wear. If you use the reel at any great duration of time, you will go through them. The ceramic ones don't wear (or at least as fast) as the metal ones. It isn't about distance or smoothness.
