Posts: 262 | I was trying to do some research on the okuma line counters as I really like their reels. I was told that there was an okuma rep the frequents this site and hoping I could get some info. Anyone else is more then welcome to chime in as well. Anyway what the difference between the convector and the magna (i believe that's the name) it looked like one bearing to me for twice the price? Also I see they make one just for BPS called the stratamaster how does that one stack up? thanks for any info guys. cheers clay

Posts: 299 Location: Ontario, California | The differences between the Magda and the Convector are as followed... 1.) Spool: Magda = Graphite, Convector = Aluminum 2.) Bearing count: Magda = 2 ball bearings with standard anti-reverse, Convector = 2 2.) ball bearings + infinite anti-reverse bearing (in addition to the back up anti reverse) 3.) Gears and drags: Magda = Standard gearing and drag system, Convector = Oversized drag and main gear which will give a better drag performance as well as much more cranking power. 4.) Handle: Magda = Standard counter balanced handle, Convector = Oversized ergo grip handle knob. 5.) Levelwind: Magda = standard stainless steel levelwind, Convector = Titanium coated levelwind The Magda can handle the rigors of Muskie fishing but in my opinion, the Convector is the way to go. All of the specs listed above are beneficial when trolling for Muskies. They are almost twice the price compared to the Magda's but in my opinion they are 10 times the reel. If you have any specific questions, please let me know. There are a lot of guys using these for Muskies on these boards. Mark Edited by California_Muskie 6/8/2009 10:42 AM

Posts: 1764 Location: Ogden, Ut | I've been VERY happy w/ the performance and durability of the Magda's. I've used them for several years w/o any problems and only recently (last winter) sent them to Okuma for routine servicing. Those reels owe me nothing. That being said, I think I'd like to try the Convectors if the Magda's ever give out. The ones I've handled just seem like a more solid reel. S.
