I own a Marcum VS560.

For the few years I have used it has made me a better guide and fishermen. From ice fishing to summer it comes in so handy. I could go on and on about all the things I have learned from an underwater camera on many different lakes and rivers but we all can think of those reasons. No need to ramble on.

If you would like to e-mail me or call me I would be gald to explain why, where and when camera's can help make you a better fishermen. My website has all my contact info or my profile on this site also has my info. I will be gald to help anyone who is looking for a camera or just wants to know more about them.

Whats your choice of camera and why?

currently have the same vs560....Marcum to me are the best cameras...
Would love to upgrade to the new color Marcum...if they go on sale and come down a bit in price I will snap one up....
have used them on some lakes up north..mani chain for example, just to lower down on the many humps out there and really get a birds eye view of the bottom/rocks/etc to really see how big the rocks are, where the best spots might be etc
used them in Madison for ice fishing and having a ball w/ them....so much so that most of the guys I fish with now have them too...nothing like setting up 2 cams in the frabill and watching all that happens down there.. fall and spring when the water is clear is a great time to drive around on the lakes and really see what you are fishing...helps you visualize the lake w/ out water even more...

I have a couple Aqua-Vu units, color and black and white. I like the color units quite a bit during the day, and the black and white during the evening and nighttime because if the Infrared lighting.

I am looking into a new second model camera. This is why I asked the question. I am surprized more people don't use them.

I can't wait to see what is on board to come out in the future from camera companys. Anglers would be surprizes at what they can learn from a underwater camera. They are huge for exploring. Now with my Hummingbird 1197SI I can find anything on the bottom and see it up close with the camera.

Who else uses cameras to explore structure, weeds, rocks, etc?

Well dirty dark brown river water will be hard to view anything until it is rite there. I have used it where I thought it would not work and with the light on I could see what I was looking for. Most cameras out will limit your views in dirty water. Some are way better than others. You get what you pay for.

I ice fish all the time and I will do recon work in areas close to where I am fishing at night. Great view with the lights on at night. I also will use a bright spot light if the water is shallow enough to see the weeds and bottom to find weed edges or cabbage vs milfoil.

Cave Run in Spring would be tuff when the river is muddy. I have found in lakes where the surface water is cloudy from big waves the day before the water clairity is better at the bottom.

Checking drop offs and depth breaks for structure in deep water works great with the lights on day or night.

Dirty water is a problem since the distance you can see is not that far in clean water. Very clear water is bar far the best views.
