createx makes all kinds of paint (all waterbased) and the autoairs are intended for the auto market. I use the autoairs on all my stuff, I use there primmer and it works good on wood (seal it properly first), plastic and metal.

i read somewhere that createx is water based, and autoair is waterborn, there is a difference, waterbased will get soft and slimy/tacky if you get it wet, because it's water soluable, water born paints actually do have some chemical additives in them to make the paint water proof as well as stronger, yet can still be thinned with water, personally never used autoair, but have done some research on it , and it sounds like pretty good stuff, this past fall i used some waterbased paint on some various lures, the paint used was comparable to createx, same base, and before clearcoating, i through one lure in a pail of water, and within 5 minutes the paint basically wiped off, i was not to impressed, i went ahead and cleared the lures anyway(test/r&d lures), and fished them throuout the fall season, and the outcome was just as i thought it would be, these companies state that you need a clear coat over top of the paint, my arguement, what about hook rash, teeth, snags, rocks, walls, ect...i like my paint to be strong, i don't want to rely soley on the clearcoat being the strongest part of the lures finish, since clearcoat does come off, it does chip, it does rash, leaving whats under it exposed to water, i won't be using any more of the water based, but the autoair sounds like it would fit the bill, i'm used to using enamels, which are very strong, and automotive paints as well, i was trying to get away from the strong odors of chemical based paints, but so far i have yet to find anything that can impress my as much as what i'm used to using, i guess to those who use auto air, will it come off if you get it wet? rylure

Creatix was designed for fabric painting orginally so it has to be heat set before clear coating I use a hair dryer or paint stripper just have to be alittle more careful with the paint stripper it can get a little too hot. I hit the lure after each colour change when using a airbrush and between each layer of paint when applying thin layers of one colour. It still has to be clear coated but is WATER RESISTANT when heat treated.Of course the nice thing is your not waiting hours or days for your paint to dry .Can,t say that all water based paints will work this way but any designed for fabric should. Hope this helps. Jim

The regular Createx is t shirt paint. It is made to be washed in a washing machine. It has built in UV protection and tough as nails after it is completly cured. I have been using it for years and even after losing areas of top coat it stays on. Auto air works as well. Both are much better on wood then any solvent based paints. Why? because solvent based paints dry brittle and wood moves with temp changes. Createx t shirt paint drys like a plastic bag. It never does get brittle so it doesnt crack like Laquer or solvent based enamel. The down side to Createx is that it peels off of metal and plastic pretty easy. To use Acrylic waterbased paints on plastic you need a coating that will sand out like wood.

I used to paint spoons for Infinity Spoons (salmon industry). We used a third type of paint. It was called Component systems. Epoxy based three part paint. Base, catylist and thinner. This stuff baked on metal (200 degrees for 30 minutes)stays on better then any other type even powder coat. It is extremely toxic!!! Again though on wood it is too brittle. Kingfisher

lacquers are just fine if one applies the complete process to stop crack and chipping. the process is involved and starts at the sealer process. as for auto air or createx its fine in my opinion. i personally use otheres for our opagues and pearls.
