Just an FYI there will be another musky rescue scheduled for shabbona lake at 11am on saturday, september 27. Volunteers are needed as well as musky nets and coolers, waders if you have them but not all are necessary to be a part. They will meet on shabbona grove road at the archery area by the bridge, which is below the dam.

102 was what I had heard up to 46". Also if they started where they usually start for these things they only covered about the first 1/2 mile of the creek. If anyone knows how much $$ is invested to get a 30" musky in an Illinois lake I would be extremely interested to know, as it might be a possible argument for spending the extra cash or at least spending a little more time developing a better barrier.

Hopefully someone that was there will be able to provide some more details.

p.s. This is not the first time this rescue has happened at this lake, if I recall correctly the first one a few years back also yielded 90 something fish and a couple concurrent ones have produced 20-40 per round.

It is hard to get a fish barrier on top of the dams. The concern is that it could plug up and raise the level of the water to a point that the dam fails.

You might want to look at getting a chain link fence across the creek at some point below the dam. This will stop the larger fish from going down the creek during high water and give you a starting point for any recovery.

Since the fence is below the dam there is not the same concern with backing up water during a flood. If the water is very high it could go over the fence and some fish could get away at that point but with a large fence that should not happen often.

This link will show how one location works with the fence below the dam.

As point out above, a much lower cost to save fish than replacement stocking.
