Posts: 968 Location: N.FIB | Was fishing in vilas this past week and one night after dark when the moon wasn`t up yet I saw something swoop down from the trees, then it made a spalsh on the water and my line went slack.I then realized that it grabbed my topwater lure, then I felt weight, thank god that whatever it was didn`t get hooked,my lure came free after I felt the weight. My guess is that is was an owl since it was so dark out,my comments were, what the ####,pause,I got a bird.I then switched to a bucktail, the lure was a globe with a tail on the back, must of made it look real.

Posts: 170 Location: Chicagoland | did the bird get free? or did you cut the line? I have casted and the lure fall on top of a swooping seagull, all I could do was cut the line. kinda sad

Posts: 280 Location: McFarland | I caught a goose out of midair this spring. Made a long bomb cast and she flew right into my line and got it tangled in its wing. All of a sudden the lure comes up and out of the water hooks its foot and at that point I was just along for the ride. Ran out of line and it was like you could hear it calling "Mayday mayday" going down "SPLASH". Finally reeled it in up to the boat and there were probably 20 other geese with it just letting us have it and Scott (magruter) grabbed the net and held its head under water while I was able to grab its foot and pull the hook out and release it. Best fight of the year though!

Posts: 100 Location: Bemidji/Cass Lake | Once I was letting out line for a troll with a white depthraider and a seagull swooped down and got it as it was sitting on the surface. I was just watching the line counter when line started ripping off the open spool. I hooked it in the foot and also experienced a brief airborne battle. Hook removal did not go well, the thing tried to bite me multiple times. I don't know if its foot could ever fully heal but it did fly away. Later Sackett
